Manifesto
Rethinking the layers around intelligence—and, in doing so, rethinking software itself.
AI has moved beyond generating information. Intelligent systems can now reason, use tools, communicate, create, and act persistently over long periods of time.
But capable intelligence alone is not enough.
Real work happens in a world of people, resources, responsibilities, decisions, and constraints. It requires context, identity, communication, authority, and coordination. It requires knowing not only how to act, but when to act, why to act, and when not to act.
As agents become more capable, this problem becomes harder, not easier.
A single agent completing a task is simple. A world in which people and persistent agents work together—across teams, organizations, tools, and boundaries—is not.
The software we use today was built primarily for humans operating computers. It was not designed for intelligent actors that can remain available, respond to events, collaborate with one another, and carry work forward on our behalf.
We now have an opportunity to rethink the layers around intelligence—and, in doing so, rethink software itself.
Those layers turn capable intelligence into resourceful, dependable, coordinated actors that can work safely in the real world.
